Yayasan Peduli has been
carrying out research in the Eastern Islands of Indonesia
to understand and work out strategies to deal with the
endemic poverty through the area. In some of the study
areas are some of the highest levels of
malnutrition in Indonesia. Poverty creates many spin off
effects that disadvantage people such as children not being
able to go to school because the parents can't afford it
or because they need the children yo help them work the
land.
Many projects have been undertaken to develop
economies in the regions and all have failed. Yayasan Peduli
is committed to a strategic approach, understand the root
causes of the issues involved and why projects have failed.
Our assessment is that
poverty alleviation/economic development projects fail
to understand deep rooted fundamental issues that are blocking
the development of any sort of commercial enterprise.
We are developing strategies
that acknowledge and address these fundamental issues.
These strategies require integrated solutions working simultaneously
at interelated areas of activity and centred in well planned
geographical locations.
These are also long term
strategies that require several stages that provide short
term, medium term and long term solutions. In many cases
problems are so deep rooted and have progressed to such
a stage that intitial projects are needed that establish
an environment that permits the second stage to be implemented
which in turn allows the third stage to proceed.
We are developing strategically
planned solutions for complex situations. At all stage
activities must be practical and achievable.
